Bassanio is coming?

Just when the Prince of Arragon left, a young Venetian arrived to announce that his lord is coming. My servant told me he brought greetings and rich gifts. He said he never seen anyone do this for love.

Oh, I hope it's Bassanio, Nerissa agrees too!

I can't wait! Can't stay still!!

I remember when I met him, a handsome fellow, a long time ago, accompanying one of Dad's friends. I never thought I would see him again!



I can't cheat! :(



I better not get my hopes too high though, what if Bassanio chooses the wrong casket? What if he isn't even Bassanio??

But I believe fate and destiny will bring my true love to me, no matter what. <3 Crossing my fingers here, wish me luck! This young Venetian wants to meet me!

What a day..

The Prince of Arragon

Today the Prince of Arragon arrived to choose between the three caskets.

Just like the Prince of Morocco he immediately rejected the casket containing lead. He almost chose gold, but thought it would be foolish to. Smart.. In the end, he concluded that he always deserves the best so he choose silver.

Hehe, he was very shocked when he found a picture of a clown smiling. He argued that he was supposed to receive a more deserving prize. What kind of person does he think he is?  He left, embaressed..

I'm afraid there are people in the world who are just foolish, spending a lot of time to choose but still fail..

Choosing the silver casket



First to choose

The Prince of Morocco is smart but not smart enough..
After dinner, he came to choose between the caskets.

The three caskets: Gold, Silver, Lead

Gold: "Who chooses me shall gain what many men desire"

Silver: "Who chooses me shall get as much as he deserves"

Lead: "Who chooses me must give and risk all he has"

The casket that contains my picture is the right one..

The Prince of Morocco was sure he shouldn't give and risk everything for lead and thought that he deserves to marry me but knew that I have alot of suitors who desire me. So he choose gold.

Unfortunately (or not), my picture wasn't in there. When he opened the casket, he cursed when he saw a skull instead. He left soon in great disapointment and I have to admit, I was pretty glad he did.

One of my suitors have just arrived, the Prince of Morocco. He seems to be very proud of his dark skin colour and is concerned whether it bothers me. Well, it won't matter.. If he chooses the right casket, I still have to marry him (whether i like it or not).

To be honest, the Prince of Morocco is not really attractive (at least, not to me) but he's a nice guy and has a higher standard than my other suitors, which is good (i guess).

I warned him that if he chooses the wrong casket, he would be single for the rest of his life. Yet, he is still determined to try. He is brave but his bravery would not be able to help him choose correctly.

Nonetheless, he still has a chance.
Sigh.. Going to enjoy the rest of my freedom as much as possible..

My name is Portia and I am a character in William Shakespeare's Merchant of Venice.


Me and Nerissa! :D

 Nerissa is my lady-in-waiting and my closest and dearest friend, we share a sisterly relationship! <3

People say I'm a beautiful and rich heiress. As a result, my dad commanded before he died that if a man wants to marry me, he has to choose between three baskets containing gold, silver and lead. If he makes the right choice, I would have to marry him, even if I don't want to. 

How ridiculous is that??!! o.O Yes, I know he is a holy man, but this is really unfair. Still, I have to trust him. I just can't find out why he did this to me..
